Ardea bennuides

Description

Ardea bennuides was a very large heron, much larger than the related living Goliath heron, A. goliath, that lived in coastal marshlands in what is now the United Arab Emirates. It became extinct when humans colonized what was apparently its final stronghold of the island Umm al-Nar, around 5000 B.C.

As the specific name suggests, it's been suggested that this was the inspiration for the mythological Bennu Bird of ancient Egyptian myth, a phoenix-like bird that was the soul of the god Ra.

:) (Smile) Looks impressive, Acvacna. I like how you colored the feathers. By the way, do you take requests? If you do, then I have an idea on what you can draw as your next paleoart. How would you like to try drawing and coloring an Asian ostrich? They're real. I looked it up on Wikipedia. There's even a photo of a skeleton. I figured I'd ask you to do that, because no one else on this website has made a single picture of an Asian ostrich. So, what do you say? Would you like to come up with your own unique colors for that kind of bird? ostrich run
