Description
Cimolichthys nepaholica was a voracious, 1 to 2 meter long relative of the salmon that lived in the Niobraran Sea, during the late Cretaceous. Numerous fossil specimens have been found that suggest that the original creatures had died due to eating-related problems... Here, one is depicted in the process of eating the vampyroteuthid Tusoteuthis longa, in reference to one such fossil that suggested the fish had suffocated while trying to swallow the cephalopod.
The smaller fish are also salmon-relatives, Enchodus petrosus, equally vicious and voracious creatures that had teeth that formed a "cage" for prey.
