Description
Rhamphosuchus crassidens was an extinct gharial from the Miocene and Pliocene of India. From its fragmentary remains, it is believed that it was twice as long as the modern day gharial, Gavialis gangeticus, making R. crassidens a 12 meter long horror that resembled a thin-snouted Sarcosuchus imperator. For all intents and purposes, R. crassidens was among the last, if not the last, "super-croc"idilian.
A Ganges river dolphin, Platanista gangetica gangetica, has been placed with R. crassidens for size comparison.
