The rhenanid placoderm Bolivosteus chacomensis is the only placoderm in known from Eifelian-aged Bolivia, when that part of South America was placed near the South Pole.  The large number of specimens in the Belén Formation suggests that that locality represents a mass mortality, where a large number of individuals perished together in a sudden catastrophe.
