Description

Various organisms from the Chengjiang Fauna of Early to Middle Cambrian China, about 520 million years ago.

At top, on a specimen of Rotadiscus is the lobopod Gonggong paucipodiformis. G. paucipodiformis was originally described as a 20-legged specimen of the normally 18-legged Paucipodia inermis. However, unlike P. inermis, G. paucipodiformis has thin, antennae-like structures at the "shoulder" of each leg.
Below Gonggong's head is a pair of the vetulocystid echinoderm Hoplovermis pharaohensis. It differs from other vetulocystids in that the trunk is long and tail-like, and is not demarcated from the body. Although the trunk does not appear to be directly affixed to the sea floor, the creature appeared to be nonmotile.
To the left of the royal pair is a cluster of tubes, tentatively named ?Archotuba whirlitzeri, clustering on a badly put-upon hyolithid.
At the bottom is the lobopod Hallucinogenia tauraceras, apparently closely related to the infamous H. sparsa and H. fortis. H. tauraceras differs from its relatives by having curved spines, and extremely long antennae.
