Description

Name: Niwa
Species: Niwa ferox
Length: 1 meter
Notes: The Niwas are semi-aquatic fish-eating cryptotheres that are popularly thought of as "platypus-analogues." They are not totally aquatic, as, they leave the rivers to lair in their deep burrows during the day. Like the Terran platypus, Ornithorhynchus anatinus, the niwas are piscavores that rely on electrosensory organs in their snouts to detect prey. However, unlike the platypus, niwas have teeth, and are very dangerous to handle as a result. All of the niwas are found in the major floodplains, the Tarcanian, the Grandest Meridial Divide, and the Occipitanian.

Name: Gharial Niwa
Species: Gavialatherium phobetor
Length: 2 - 3 meters
Notes: The Gharial Niwa is one of the larger niwas. It has been observed attacking ungulates that come to the river to drink at night.
