Notes: This behemah is endemic to the mainland of Palao, where small herds of 5 to 30 individuals wade and float about in the marshes and waterways of central Palao, as well as within the Eye of Palao. It feeds exclusively on water plants, and utilizes its trunk as a snorkel. The long fangs are used in intra-specific conflict, as well as by the males to stimulate the females during mating.
