Description
The egg-shaped, burrowing thyestiid osteostracan Tremataspis schmidti from the Late Silurian of Estonia.
It was once thought to have been a primitive osteostracan, but is now regarded as a highly derived creature, having lost its pectoral fins, and developed the head-shield into an egg shape to help it bury into the substrate.
