My friend, *kokiteno, just told me that he's leaving DeviantArt because he's hit artistic rock bottom, as, the inspiration isn't calling to him anymore. Plus, then there's the problem of him not being satisfied with anything he turns out anymore, either. I'm not sure if he's planning on updating his journal, or not for one final hurrah. I tried to convince him not to leave, but, I don't think I was successful.

You don't suppose I could get your help from you guys in convincing my friend that he does have talent and that his artistic career is worth maintaining?

I'm not sure what I COULD say.
Most artists have a few things in common..
One of them being that we are fairly stuburn once we've made up our minds.

I CAN say that there have been months ... over six in fact.. that have gone by, where I hadn't had a single creative thought or touched a sketch book. I'd just post "old" things...

It was frustrating, embarassing...I didn't know what to do. NOTHING was good enough. I've always tried to hold high standards..but it had come to the point of being what I consider, ridiculous...
There was nothing I could do. I came around..welll, randomly. I don't know why it stopped, and I still haven't pinpointed why it started again.

In any case, perhaps out of nostalgia and good memories, he ought to keep his page and still continue talking to people?

Couldn't you go over to his gallery and stroke his ego a little while?

Is it a career, or a hobby?

Maybe he should venture out of the Furry sphere and challenge himself a little more. Or try another subject.

Like lycanthropy?

Perhaps, but how about stepping out of the whole sphere, not just stepping into the 'Otherkin' genre?

Why not just try his hand at other stuff? Regular animals, monsters, robots, or realistic humans?

I looked at his gallery. Common themes are muscled furries.

I'm sure he could try other stuff.

It sounds more like he's looking for attention.

True. Good point.
On the other hand, he never looks for attention through whining.
Stripteasing, yes, but never whining.

For things to be a habit, they have to have a beginning. :)

Anyhow. Tell your friend to keep practicing. He should also cruise furaffinity, since that's apparently where his interest sits.

Tell him to find Ollie Canal's gallery. On it is an inspiring picture of something he did in highschool.

If that image can't inspire a person to keep practicing their art, then there's nothing you can say to them to change their mind.

Not even with the threat of running him over with a truck and then nursing him back to health with a blowtorch and motorized turkey carver?

That would be a miracle the likes of which could be reproduceable on an episode of MacGuyver, not a threat.

But seriously. I'm a writer, and even I was inspired by it.

Maybe I should go Ann Wilkes on my favorite artists more often, then.
