Description
Pleistocene Crete had an indigenous genus of pygmy deer, Candiacervus.
C. ropalophorus was the smallest, being only 30 inches tall, with antlers, 16 inches without.
Crete also had its own indigenous owl, too, the flightless Cretan Ground Owl, Athene cretensis, a monstrous, 2-foot tall relative of the Athena's owl, and Eurasian pygmy owls.

LOL - I was wondering about the proportional sizes on this pair of critters. I rather like the idea of a huge ground owl.
